1. Project Type
What is being wrapped, and for how long is the shrink wrap cover needed? This determines the type and grade of shrink wrap material needed. Thicker grades with additives such as flame retardant, will add to the cost.
- Light-Duty – For smaller items, stored outdoors short-term, a 200-micron film may suffice.
- Heavy-Duty – For large products being transported by road or stored long-term, a 250-micron film is more suitable.
- Flame-Retardant – Scaffolding projects usually require a 300-micron flame-retardant shrink wrap, which costs more but meets fire retardant safety standards.
2. Size & Shape
How big is the item to be wrapped? Large or irregularly shaped objects that might require additional works such as padding and strapping will require more materials, time, and skilled labour.
- Economies of Scale – A large job (such as a scaffolding shrink wrap project over 1,000 square metres) will benefit from lower square-metre rates due to efficiencies of scale.
- Scaffolding Design – A well designed, flush scaffolding will be much faster to wrap than one with many protrusions or buttresses which will require the sheeting to be cut around.
- Small Projects – Smaller projects (under 100 square metres) are often priced as a fixed day rate because a per-metre price isn’t practical.
3. Location
The site location can add to the installation cost:
- Travel Costs – Remote or distant locations typically require extra travel time and accommodation.
- City Work – Work in the centre of cities can incur additional costs due to the added complexities of parking, deliveries of materials and congestion charges.
4. Working Environment
The type of site affects the ease and safety of installation.
- Site Access – On large construction sites, just getting to the work area can take time and special equipment.
- Windy Areas – Coastal or high-up locations are windier, which slows down the work.
- Indoor Work – Indoor shrink wrapping is usually quicker and cheaper than outdoor jobs.
5. Accessibility

- Access Needed – Installers must be able to reach every area to cover it properly.
- Easy Access – If the area is easy to reach, the job is quicker and cheaper.
- Cherry Picker – Using a cherry picker adds time and cost.

- No Scaffold – Special solutions are needed when there’s no scaffolding.
6. Attachment

- Scaffold Fixing – Shrink wrap is clipped and welded to the scaffold for a secure fit.
