- Training: In-Person, How to Shrink Wrap Scaffolding Like a Pro
- Candidates: 5
- Practical project: Sunseeker Predator 92 motor yacht, Kian, 28.15m
- Location: Yachthub Group boatyard, Malta
The Problem
Yachthub Group operates one of Malta's most active superyacht service facilities at Portomaso Marina. The yard handles refit, maintenance and painting work on high-value motor yachts and sailing yachts year-round, and shrink wrap painting tents are a routine requirement, providing the controlled, weatherproof enclosure that spray painting and coating work demands.
Until early 2025, Yachthub Group was sourcing both materials and installation as a combined service. For a yard working at this volume, the economics of that model do not stack up: flying in an installation team for every project, and paying installation rates for work that trained yard staff could handle themselves, adds significant cost. The team at Yachthub also had the practical capability and motivation to learn; they simply needed structured training and the right materials to get started.
They contacted Rhino Shrink Wrap to discuss a combined package: in-person training for their team, delivered on-site in Malta, alongside a materials supply order to equip them for independent working from day one.

The Solution
Rhino delivered the In-Person Training course, How to Shrink Wrap Scaffolding Like a Pro, to five candidates at the Yachthub Group facility in Malta in January 2025.
The course runs in two parts. Candidates complete Part 1 online first: 15 video lessons with accompanying text notes, illustrations and multiple-choice assessments covering the theory of scaffold shrink wrap, materials, equipment, fixing methods, heat welding, heat shrinking, safety and best practice. This part takes approximately four hours and can be completed before the trainer arrives on site.
Part 2 is the practical session: a full day on-site with a Rhino trainer, working through the skills hands-on. For the Yachthub team, the practical project was an active refit job, a Sunseeker Predator 92 motor yacht, 28.15 metres, requiring a full shrink wrap painting tent to create a controlled environment for coating work.
The candidates worked through the complete installation process under supervision: preparing the scaffold, hanging side sheets, rolling and fixing roof sheets, heat welding overlaps and working around complex geometry at the bow and stern of the hull.
Practical training on a live project rather than a demonstration rig means candidates learn to solve real problems in real conditions: wind, access constraints and complex shapes. By the end of the session, the Yachthub team had completed a full, operational painting tent on a 28-metre superyacht.
Materials supplied alongside the training included 12m and 16m wide rolls of 250 micron marine shrink wrap, 300 micron FR shrink wrap, premium tape, Rhino clips, zip access doors, inspection hatches, weatherproof air vents, a 32kW shrink wrap gun kit and a roll stand: a complete setup for independent operation.
All five candidates were assessed and certified on successful completion of both course parts.
The Result
Yachthub Group left the training with five certified operatives, a full equipment kit, and a completed superyacht painting tent as evidence of what they could now produce independently. The cost of the training and initial materials supply was recovered within a small number of projects that the team could now execute in-house rather than outsourcing.
For a yard working on high-value vessels where quality of finish and environmental control during painting is non-negotiable, the ability to install professional-grade shrink wrap enclosures in-house, to the same standard as a specialist contractor, is a meaningful operational upgrade.
Rhino continues to supply Yachthub Group with materials for ongoing projects.
