The Problem

KB Boat Park operates from Camber Quay in Old Portsmouth, storing and preparing customers' boats on the quayside. Like De Krimpers, they wrap vessels themselves rather than using an installation contractor, which means their material choice has to work reliably in the hands of their own crew: a film that shrinks cleanly with standard heat-gun technique, holds a weathertight seal in an exposed harbourside setting, and is available quickly when a boat needs covering on short notice.

A smaller, more occasional order like this has a different set of practical requirements to a high-volume trade account: fast turnaround matters as much as the specification itself, since a boat waiting to be wrapped on an open quay is exposed the whole time it is not covered.

The Solution

Rhino supplied KB Boat Park with 200 micron Marine/Industrial Shrink Wrap in the Standard Grade specification, at 10m width and 50m roll length, sized to the vessel in question rather than the wider format supplied for larger-volume accounts. Two rolls covered the job, delivered next working day via TPN at no additional carriage cost, so the boat was not left waiting on an open quay for material to arrive.

As with any self-install customer, application was down to KB Boat Park's own crew, visible in the supplied photos using a pole-mounted heat gun to shrink the film taut across the top of the hull, and hand-finishing the detail work at the rubbing strake and hull line. Rhino's part was getting the right grade and quantity of film to the quayside quickly enough that the turnaround did not become the bottleneck.

The Result

The vessel was fully wrapped in a drum-tight, weathertight cover using film supplied and delivered within the working week, with KB Boat Park's own crew carrying out the application. For an operator storing boats on an exposed quayside, having a dependable marine-grade film available on short notice, rather than needing to plan weeks ahead, is what keeps a boat covered and protected without a gap in weather protection while material is sourced.
